It has been over a year
since there was a new platform for the intel's Core I7 range of processors. So there
is the new LGA2011, just to coincide with the year 2011. This is going to be the
performance leader for few years to come.
When Intel launched the Sandybridge range of Core I7 processors, one thing that was
missing is the support for more memory. With almost all programs now available in 64bit
versions, it is time for the motherboards to catch up to provide more memory. Most of
the LGA2011 Core I7 motherboards are supplied with 8 memory slots, that is double what you
get on the best socket 1155 motherboard. With that you get the chance to upgrade to
whopping 64Gig of memory. At the moment of writing there is no 8Gig DDR3 memory available
on the market, so you need to be happy with 32Gig memory.

| Here you can compare the performance of
Core I7, 3960x with Core I7 990X. It is not a big margin, but when you compare with
the older Core 2 Quad processors, you should see more than double the performance.
What is more is this is a 6 core - 12 thread capable processor and most applications still
perform much better in future as they upgrade their code to run across multiple threads. .

| Processor arithmetic score of SiSoft
Sandra benchmark is a comparison of row processor power. If you use Microsoft Excel for
Engineering, Professional, Scientific, Architectural number crunching applications, the
power of Core I7 3960x is there for you. There is no more waiting, It can do in 1/3 the
time what other quad core computers do. Sorry ! I need a much wider screen if I have
to include the Dual core computer performance or include it in a logarithmic scale. |
