Major changes
- Pentium 4 processor is based on
Intel® NetBurst microarchitecture, the Pentium 4 processor offers
higher-performance processing than ever before. Pentium 4 2400Mhz and above is available
with Intel's 0.13-micron technology, which reduce the heat and improve the performance
with double the cache memory than previous versions of Pentium 4 processors. Pentium 4
processor delivers significant performance gains for use in home computing, business
solutions and all your processing needs. Stop the wait for the next mouse click and
upgrade to Pentium 4 today and get reworded with increased productivity.
- Included in the pack is Intel Pentium 4 processor, Fan and heat sink
kit with thermal paste, Installation instruction and warranty info.
- The newest Pentium 4 processor
(800MHz bus versions and 3.06GHz-533Mhz version) supports Hyper-Threading
Technology,
which enables you to multitask more efficiently than ever before when you run the most
demanding applications at the same time. Pentium 4 processors are available in speeds
2400Mhz and up.

Pentium 4 FAQ
- Can I upgrade my Pentium III computer to Pentium 4 without changing the
motherboard.
No ! New motherboard is required, Even the original Pentium 4
motherboards based on socket 423 need to be changed. . Your Pentium III motherboard will
not accept Pentium 4.
- Can I use my existing case ?
If you have a system bought from us within the last 2 years you should be ok, as
we have been using Pentium 4 compatible power supply units. Otherwise you need for new
case with minimum 300w power supply suitable for P4. You may need a better power
supply depending on the other items in the computer.
- Can I re-use my Memory, Hard disk, CD ROM , CD Writer and other items.
Yes, in most cases. If you have them in good working order you can re-use them.
But if you try to re-use the memory your motherboard selection will be limited to SDRAM
based motherboards. Most motherboards available today will only support DDRAM (or DDR
Memory). With regards to interface cards like sound cards, internal modems, SCSI
cards, extra printer port cards etc, they have to be PCI to be able to re-use. If they are
the older ISA type you have to throw them away. On the other hand all Pentium 4
motherboard today will have integrated sound, so you need not to worry about sound card.
- What are the major changes from Pentium III ?
Currently Pentium 4
processors are available with 533Mhz or 800Mhz front side bus against the
Pentium III - 133Mhz/100Mhz.
Pentium 4 processors has
floating point and two integer processor units.
Pentium 4 processors (in box
version) comes with half a kilo heat sink with new retention mechanism
Pentium 4 processors are
currently available in 2.4GHz and above up to 3.2GHz (Sep-2003)
- What sort of Motherboards are available for Pentium 4 processor ?
There are wide variety of Pentium 4 motherboards available from every major
motherboard manufacturer. You can group them based on the chipsets used. There are Intel
chipsets for the Pentium 4 motherboards which are the most popular, then again the SIS
chipset and also you may find Via and Ali chipset based Pentium 4 motherboards. But the
Intel and SIS chipset based Pentium 4 motherboards are the most popular.
- What sort of motherboard should I look for the Pentium 4
First is to make sure it suits the bus speed of the Pentium 4 processor selected.
Pentium 4 (800MHz bus ) can only be used on 800Mhz bus (or above) supported
motherboards, where as you can use a 533Mhz bus processor on either 800Mhz bus or 533Mhz
bus supported motherboards. Pentium 4 533Mhz bus processors can not be used on 400Mhz
(older) Pentium 4 motherboards. If cash is not a problem look for the Intel chipset
based Pentium 4 board. Then look whether there are enough PCI slots for the cards you need
to install plus some extra. If you want to re-use the memory see whether the
selected Pentium 4 motherboard accepts your memory. Even though you can get a Pentium 4
motherboard with onboard video, make sure there is an AGP slot in case you need to install
a graphics card later. If there is no AGP slot, PCI graphic cards can be very
expensive as well as hard to find.
- There are couple of different socket variations to choose. Make sure to select the right
combination of processor, motherboard and memory.
- There is a new version refer to as Prescott with 1MB cache (Better value for
money)
