1.  In DVD or CD Duplicating what does Target Overflow mean?

Generally this means the capacity of your master is larger than the capacity of your blank disc.

2. Why am I getting such high failure rates on my duplications?

High failure rates are usually due to condition of your master disc. We highly recommend that you remake the master disc. Remaking the master disc will reduce the failure rate considerable. Other recommendations includes:

3. Do I need to connect my PC for the duplicator to function?

No, our duplicator are fully standalone.

4. What does Standalone mean?

Standalone means no computer or other equipment or software   is required to operate the duplicator.

5. My master disc will play and read, but why won't it copy?

Make sure the master is free of damage or blemishes and is produced on a high quality media brand. The master disc plays back successfully because the player only spins at 1X. During the burn process, the reader has to spin the disc at a much higher rate in order to match the duplicating speed. At high speeds the quality of the disc is magnified, making it essential to have a high quality master. Also some disks with copy protection may fail to copy. Try to set to copy at a slower speed.

6. What is Burn in?

Burn in is that process by which components of a system are exercised prior to being placed in service (and often, prior to the system being completely assembled from those components). The intention is to detect those particular components that would fail. For electronic components, burn in is frequently conducted at elevated temperature and perhaps elevated voltage. This process may also be called heat soaking. The components may be under continuous test or simply tested at the end of the burn in period.

7. What the difference between duplication and replication?

There are two ways of manufacturing a CD or DVD:

  1. Duplication means recording on a CD-R or DVD-R, just like you would a tape. A laser on the recorder drive burns the data on the recording dye layer of the disc. Duplication is ideal for smaller jobs, as there is no wait for a master tamper or for press setup.
  2. Replication means the data is stamped on the disc, right into the plastic. Replication is ideal for jobs of 1000 units or larger, as the cost per disc is much lower in these larger quantities, compared to a fixed disc cost for duplication.

8. When to use Prescan function on our duplicator? And what is the difference between Prescan & Verify?

Prescan function is design for people who suspect they might have a bad master disc. You can always use this function to check if your master disc is readable with duplicator. The only difference between Prescan & Verify is Prescan only check the master, but Verify will read through all the data on all your target drives as well. This will ensure you have both readable master & copied discs.

9.  I buy a 1-7  DVD Duplicator , Can I make only one or two copies only if I need.

Yes, then Athena duplicator controller automatically recognize how many disk you put and copy them.

9. What is the AutoStart feature.
AutoStart will automatically start copying after few minutes when you put the source and target disk. You can set the time in seconds how long the duplicator waits before it starts.  Set it to a higher value so  that you have enough time to put all the disks. We prefer to set the autostart feature to off to avoid the duplicator starting before you finish putting all the disks.

10. Does the Duplicator has a facility to check the disk is copied correctly.

Yes, you can use the 'Copy and verify' function or 'Copy and Compare' function to verify the disk after copying. Also if you use the Copy function, you can use the verify function later to check the disk.

11. My Duplicator is asking to insert the Master disk even when the master disk is in.

Check to make sure the master disk is in good condition and readable. Check the settings of the duplicator to make sure you have selected the correct drive as the source drive. (Source drive is usually the DVD reader ). If the problem persists change the source disk to some other disk and see.

12.  Can I use the duplicator with re-writable disks

Yes, you can. But if you come across errors, do a full erase of the disk using the menu.

13. What is the meaning of  "Emulate write"  or " Test copy. "

This feature allows you to test to see whether you can copy a disk without wasting a blank disk.  In some cases of copy protected disks this test is not a 100% guarantee, but it give an indication of copyability of the disk in most cases.
