  • Is all video cards same
Performance of video cards will depend on the amount of memory on the card,   the chip set  and the interface (PCI or AGP) mainly.
  • What to look in a good video card
    ?
  • What is AGP video card, Are they better than normal or PCI
If you have an AGP slot on the motherboard it is better to go for an AGP video card, if not there is no alternative you have to go for a PCI video card or replace the motherboard.
  • Can I get a VESA Local bus Video card or ISA video card
You may have to look at second hand computer dealers, swap meets or news groups.
  • What is 3D and 3D FX
3D is the technique of imitating a three dimensional image on the two dimensional screen. This technique was promoted in the mid 90s by Voodoo series cards. 3D FX is their trade mark. But now the market is more dominated by generic 3D cards supporting Microsoft(R) Direct3D, Direct draw, DirectShow, ActiveX  and OpenGL and other generic software interfaces.
  • How to install a new video card
In most cases it is a matter of
    • switch off the computer
    • pull off the monitor signal cable and  unscrew the case
    • Unscrew the old video card and Pull it out gently
    • Put in the new card in the appropriate slot (I.e. PCI video cards in PCI slots and AGP video cards in AGP slot.), push the card in home so that it is properly seated, screw it in to the back plate,
    • Close the cover, connect the monitor cable again and power it on.
    • Install the drivers for the new card.
  • How to compare video cards
There is lot of information about new and fast video card comparisons and on the web and magazines. Take them with a grain of salt.
  • What types of video card suits me
First thing you have to look before you select your video card is the bank balance in your account. Then look whether you can use an AGP card, Most brand name machines including IBM Aptiva,  HP Pavilion, HP vectra,  Compaq Presario, Acer power and also some clone machines may not have an AGP slot.  This is the case with most brand name machines with built in graphics. If you have an AGP slot go for an AGP
  • How to know whether my video card is dead or faulty
If you cant see any letters on the screen even when starting the computer, then the video card may be dead. But to be sure check by connecting another monitor as it could be a faulty monitor. Other minor faults are hard to find. Also other faults and incompatibilities can be shown as video card problems. Especially older motherboards or motherboards with AGP1x, AGP2x slots may behave strange when AGP 4x video cards are installed. Also new 32 meg, 64 meg video cards are hungry for power. If you have a small power supply that can be the cause of your video cards failing. When loaded with extra hard disks or CD Writers and so forth even 200- 230w power supplies may be not enough for a 32 meg video card.  Remember most brand name machines like IBM Aptiva,  HP Pavilion, HP vectra,  Compaq Presario, Acer power will come with only 100W- 150W power supply which is not enough to drive a 32 meg video card.
  • What are the Value for money video cards
It is a hard question to answer.
  • How to improve my game speed, is it the video card, faster processor, more memory or ?
You have to look at the video card as well as the processor.
