DDR3 / DDRIII Memory
Started to use in high end computers in 2008. With the introduction of Intel Core I7 computers in end of 2008 the use of DDR3 memory is expected to be increased in 2009
DDR II DRAM memory
This is the most widely used memory in computers during the 2005 - 2008 era. The DDRII memory looks almost similar to DDR memory, but should NOT be installed on DDR slots as it may damage the motherboard or the memory chip. Be careful they are almost exactly similar in length and also the notch at the middle is almost at the same place.
DDR-DRAM or Double data Rate DRAM memory
This is the type of memory used in almost all computers (March 2004). Variety of motherboards to support DDR memory is available. They are available in different speeds like PC2100 (266MHz), PC2700 (333MHz) and PC3200 (400MHz). It may be better to get the correct speed suitable for the motherboard you have, even though some faster memory may work happily with older motherboards.
SDRAM DIMM memory
is used on most Pentium II, Pentium III, early AMD Athlon, AMD Duron and Celeron (Socket 370) motherboards. Installation of DIMM memory is a matter of simply switching off the computer and then unplug the power chord, touch the metal case of computer to discharge any static electricity. Push the two holding clips apart. Plug in the new memory module and switching on the computer again. If there is any old memory chips, it may be better to run the new chip by itself for the first few days to iron out any problems and compatibility issues. You may plug the old ones back again if every thing is ok Make sure you push the memory chip firmly into the motherboard without damaging either the motherboard or the memory chip. You may help the pushing in by moving the two side clips in at the same time. (If you are not sure, get the help of an expert)

RDRAM or RAMBUS memoryThis is the type of memory introduced sometime ago with Pentium III and Pentium 4 systems. They are not installed on the motherboards designed for DIMM memory. They needs motherboards designed for RDRAM. Currently support for RDRAM is withdrawn by most major manufacturers. (We do not stock RAMBUS memory) |
