New motherboards will use
a new socket called 478 and will use a new type of Pentium 4 processor. you cannot
interchange the old Pentium 4 and new Pentium 4.
New boards will use
SDRAM or DDR RAM . New motherboards which will use DDR-RAM is already released.
You need a Pentium 4
compatible case if you plan to upgrade your existing computer. (We have been using All
Pentium 4 compatible cases for the last 6 months)
Use
only AGP4X Video cards, Old video cards which are AGP 2x or AGP2x/4X may damage the
motherboard.

Server Board S845WD1-E delivers essential server features for entry-level
server applications, such as 2-GB Error-Correcting Code (ECC) DDR200/266 memory capacity,
dual-channel ATA/100 RAID, and dual-server Ethernet controllers. It supports one Intel®
Pentium® 4 processor with either a 400MHz or 533MHz system bus, and contains Server
System Infrastructure (SSI) components for power, reliability and flexibility.

Pentium 4 motherboards will not accept Pentium 3 or any other processor.
Most current motherboard will only use DDR memory.
You need a new case, with ATX 2.03 spec. and extra connectors for
motherboard.
New Intel 845 chipset motherboard was released in Sept 2001 which
supports SDRAM memory. This is considered by most in the industry as a backdown by
Intel. This will reduce the price of Pentium 4 systems by a big amount. Cost of
RAMBUS memory required for the previous Pentium 4 motherboards has been keeping
customers away from Pentium 4. Also in early 2002 the 845 chipset
design started supporting the DDR memory which is faster than SDRAM. On some
benchmarks DDR-RAM systems perform better than RDRAM based systems. However as
customers you have to remember to look for the most performance for the given $$$ value.
For example system with 512Meg DDR RAM will cost the same as system with 128 RDRAM today.
So at the end, 512Meg DDR RAM system will perform almost all benchmarks better than 128Meg
RDRAM system. .
Via and Sis has also released new chipsets for the Pentium 4 processor
with DDR support. These motherboards available on the market from Dec 2001. We may
start offering them early 2002 when the minor bugs are ironed out and the product is
matured.

cards on new Intel 845 or 850 chipset based motherboards. They will damage the
motherboard as the motherboard does not support 3.3 V mode. Cards to avoid include ATI
